2005 TALBOT / 大寶

Something about Chateau Talbot

A prestigious Classified Growth of Saint-Julien, Château Talbot is one of the essential references of the wines of the Left Bank in the Bordeaux region. The estate oversees a unique vineyard, consisting of a 115-hectare single vineyard. Château Talbot enjoys an exceptional terroir due its Garonne gravel-alluvial soils and its close proximity to the Gironde estuary.

Benefiting from the expertise of Nancy Bignon-Cordier, oenologist Éric Boissenot and consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt, the wines of Château Talbot are among the most famous Médoc vintages that are recognized for their consistent quality vintage after vintage.

As classy, elegant wines, the style of Château Talbot has a generous bouquet that is expressive in its youth and then reveals great depth and complexity over the years. On the palate, these wines decisively display the typicity of the Saint-Julien appellation that is marked with structured, silky tannins. Château Talbot embodies the excellence of Médoc wines in a classic approach, and is far from the clichés of austerity.

FROM THE
EXPERTS

The 2005 Talbot is dense ruby/purple, with moderately intense notes of forest floor, underbrush, and black and red currant fruit. It is slightly herbal, medium-bodied, not terribly complex, but has good sweet fruit, and a decent finish. This wine should drink well for another 15 years. Drink: 2015 - 2030

The Château Talbot 2005 has a very austere bouquet with antique bureau/mahogany scents infusing the tertiary black fruit. It opens nicely in the glass - certainly showing more vigour and fruit concentration than 2 or 3 years ago. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well judged acidity, but it just lacks a little complexity and concentration on the very austere finish. Classic in style, but it just needs more brio, more presence and authority

Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Correct, well balanced and refreshing nose. Very well mannered but arguably a bit too discreet. Chunky tannins. Very drying end. Drink 2019-2035
