Something about Chateau de la Maltroye

Truly a benchmark reference in the Burgundy wine region, Château de la Maltroye is a flagship estate of the Côte de Beaune. This beautiful 18th century building with its typical Burgundian glazed tiles overlooks the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. Since 1940, the 15th century cellars of the estate have been the setting for the production of fantastic Burgundy wines. In 1970, the Cournut family took the reins of this lovely estate. The estate’s current owner and former aeronautical engineer Jean-Pierre Cournut aims to offer in the glass a precise and refined expression of the estate’s terroirs.

Château de la Maltroye has vineyard property not only in Chassagne-Montrachet but also in two Premier Cru sites in the commune of Santenay. The vineyard area is planted with 13 hectares of Chardonnay and 2 hectares of Pinot Noir, the vines roughly 50 years old on average.

The wines of Château de la Maltroye are pure expressions of terroir. The majority of these wines are Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines from Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay. The white wine “La Dent de Chien” offers fine fruit with lemony notes. Meanwhile, the red “La Comme”, a Santenay Premier Cru, reveals cherries aromas and a powerful tannic structure, which promises a great potential for age.
