The Third Classified Growth in the appellation of Saint-Estèphe remained in Capbern-Gasqueton family throughout the 19th century until 2012. Tasted blind at Farr's 2002 Bordeaux tasting. Good wine, good wine Mrs. G. Very impressive definition on the austere nose laced with cigar box, damp earth, blackberry, thyme and black tea. Chewy entry on the palate, firm, bold tannins here with ripe black cherries, redcurrant and sour red cherry. Tannic, slightly muffled on the finish but it has a sense of drive and purpose, yet maintaining an admirable degree of refinement. Tasted October 2009.
Drink 2010-17 Dark crimson. Succulent and rich and charming. Lots of polish. Good stuff!

Deep ruby/purple-tinged, this vintage, a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, is medium-bodied, elegantly-styled with surprisingly sweet tannin, some notes of herbs, plums, black cherries, and currants, a sweet, ripe attack, and a straightforward finish without the power and depth of the finest vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2017.
