Something about Chateau Branaire Ducru
Enthusiastic and ambitious, Patrick Maroteaux has not ceased his efforts to raise the chateau Branaire-Ducru to perfection with the objective of restoring the wine of this exceptional terroir since he purchased it in 1988. Consisting of 50 hectares in Saint-Julien, the Chateau takes its named from a Mr. Braneyre who owned the estate in 1680. Unique soils give Branaire-Ducru wines their typicity and, with other prestigious neighbours, form an appellation recognized worldwide. Chateau Branaire-Ducru’s reputation has been confirmed since it was ranked as a Fourth Growth in the Classification of 1855.

Opulent aromas of blackberry, olives and toasted oak follow through to a full-bodied palate, with big chewy tannins and a long, long finish. Big and muscular wine. Best after 2009. (JS)
Rather sharp with simple, if smooth - almost soft - fruit, then chewy slightly green tannins. A bit raw. (Average group score: 16.1)

This fully mature, gorgeous 2003 Branaire Ducru possesses silky tannins, lots of cedary, spice box, floral, black cherry, forest floor and velvety leather-like notes, full body, and an opulent, complex yet elegant style. A beauty of complexity, richness and finesse, it should continue to drink well for another 5-6 years. Drink 2014-2020
