Something about Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Yellow Label Brut (VCP)

Having become an internationally recognised brand with tremendous success, Veuve Clicquot traces its history back to the woman who made it all possible: Madame Clicquot. It was in 1798 that François Clicquot married the daughter of Baron Nicolas Ponsardin. The son of the founder of Champagne Clicquot, he passed on his passion to his wife, introducing her to the secrets of Champagne production. When her husband passed away prematurely, she took over the reins of the Champagne House at the tender age of 27.

A brilliant woman, she boldly succeeded in the business world, becoming in just a few years “the great lady of Champagne”. Guided by her innate sense of innovation and a perpetual quest for perfection, she invented the riddling table, and made possible the first rosé blend champagne. Maison Veuve Clicquot bears as its uncompromising requirement the motto: “Just one level of quality, the very best”.

The Champagne House Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin pioneered a new type of marketing by housing its fabulous product in bottles graced with an orange-yellow label, first applied in 1877. With this revolutionary decision, the brand made a huge stride in building its reputation, becoming one of the most recognised brands among the Champagne Houses.

Since then, Veuve Clicquot in Reims has joined the LVMH luxury group, which has made it one of the first Champagne brands in the world.

Located in Reims, Veuve Clicquot offers a beautiful range of Champagne wines to meet the expectations of a wide audience. The signature of Veuve Clicquot Champagne is the influence of Pinot Noir, with their wines distinguished by their heady structure. The Carte Jaune cuvee is the non-vintage Brut of the estate, appreciated for its freshness and structure, but Veuve Clicquot also produces a range of vintage Champagnes. The prestige wine of the house, “La Grande Dame,” pays tribute to the one whose pioneering spirit first raised this luxury Champagne House to the highest level.

FROM THE
EXPERTS

Toasty and generous with lemon freshness, this also has quite some dried-pear and peach aromas from mature elements of the blend, plus a touch of spice at the long, structured finish. The cuvée is based on 2015 and is 50% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay and 20% pinot meunier. Reserve wines make up more than one third of the blend. Drink now.

Lemony richness on the nose, a struck match character that falls in with lemon vanilla note. Toffee apple allure on the palate with chalky coolness & savoury nutty finish.

Brisk lemon-lime flavors and floral apple clarity lend this wine its freshness and mineral-tinged refreshment. It smells like chalk, then the flavors are enriched by toasty brioche and spiciness from the lees aging. Simple and saturated, finely made in a grandmarque style

One of the most popular of all Champagnes, this is now showing a freshness that wasn't always there. The crisp texture and green-apple flavors give it an immediate drinkability as well as perfumed acidity and a vibrant aftertaste.

A crisp and lacy Champagne, with a hint of smoke underscoring flavors of poached apricot, pastry cream and pickled ginger. An overtone of Mandarin orange peel ties it all together.
